Life Through a Dram Episode 4: We All Need Someone

This week my wife was rushed to the local ER after waking up at 4.00am with severe chest pains and breathing difficulties.

She had a bunch of tests – ECGs, scans, etc. – but nothing was really detected. The cardiologist thought it might be a heart murmur, but there’s no history of that so that was ignored.

Thankfully, she’s home now, but has to follow up to make sure everything’s okay.

When I posted an update on Facebook, the reaction from both physical friends and digital ones reminded me why the world is better when we have someone in it with us, as I share in this episode.

Life Through a Dram Episode 3: The Lives We Need to Change

This week saw yet another tragic and senseless school shooting in America. 10 people are dead, with more injured.

Once again, the usual soundbites are uttered by politicians, yet little weight actually lies behind them. If there was, we wouldn’t watch the same story play out again and again.

Today’s episode recants the words of a mother whose daughter was caught in the horror. It’s a much longer episode than usual, but that mother’s words, and those like her, deserve to be heard in their entirety.

Something needs to change. Apathy, and “thoughts can prayers”, are no longer enough. Truth be told, they never were…

Life Through a Dram Episode 2: When Being Late Can Be Good

Often in life, we’re told that being late is a bad thing. And, for most of the time, it’s probably true.

Being late for a job interview, for example, or an important meeting, can mean you lose the opportunity of a lifetime.

But what if being late can be as equally rewarding, and as life-changing? That’s the premise of today’s episode – I hope you enjoy, and don’t forget to subscribe via your preferred option.

Life Through a Dram – My New (First) Podcast

Life Through a Dram podcast with Danny Brown

So… yeah… I started a podcast. Say hello to Life Through a Dram. 🙂

I’d been thinking of doing one for a long time, now. Then, as I started some other projects / labours of love, like The Craft Beer Diaries, I considered how I could utilize podcasting there, too.

But, like a lot of things I do, I procrastinated, and then getting a podcast set up dropped off my radar. So… yeah.

With the podcast, I’m looking to essentially just have a weekly “thought”, that can be about life, being a better person, the world around us… pretty much, what I talk about on the blog, only now through audio.

It won’t be the same content you’ve already read here (though I may riff on previous topics) – instead, it’ll be something that caught my eye, or made me think, and I’ll riff on that.

The name comes from the fact that I’ll be sharing my thoughts while enjoying a dram of fine single malt scotch. Because life’s always better with a good whisky. 🙂

Anyhoo, the first episode is below. Like I mentioned, it’s not super polished, and I’ll be looking to change up the recording a little bit as I move forward.

If you think this might be something you’d enjoy, I’d love for you to subscribe using your preferred option underneath the podcast.

And please, feel free to drop your own thoughts in the comments on what you’d change, what you’d like to hear discussed, etc.

Slaintevar!

A Couple of New Additions

Measure

Nagra SNST RecorderJust wanted to give you a quick heads-up on two new additions to the blog, both of which you’ll see in the right-hand sidebar.

The first is the option to subscribe to this blog via a podcast format. However, this isn’t me doing the podcasting – it’s handled by Odiogo, an app that automatically converts blog posts into audio files. The audio quality is actually pretty good, considering it’s (at heart) a robot.

The subscribe options are iTunes, Juice and Zune, or you can copy the feed into your own audio reader. I just wanted to make sure that the blog is as accessible as possible to everyone, and Odiogo will hopefully offer a useful alternative to any visually impaired readers.

The second addition is my BlogTalkRadio channel. I set this up a while ago but haven’t had time to sit down and do anything with it. Until now, that is.

The first episode launches at the end of this month, on Monday August 31 at 2.00pm EST with Chris Brogan. Chris will be chatting about his upcoming book Trust Agents (co-authored with Julien Smith), as well as what it takes to be a trust agent and an informal chat about new media, business, marketing and much more.

If you click on the banner it takes you to my Blog Talk channel, where you can subscribe or set a reminder for the chat. Future shows will include Gary Vaynerchuk and David Henderson among others.

And that’s that. Feel free to check either (or both) out and hope you enjoy the changes. Cheers!
